For asset owners and IMR project managers, that connection starts before mobilisation. Previous findings, historical anomalies and incomplete inspection scope all need to feed into a work pack that gives the offshore team clear tasks and usable context.
Start with the previous record
Preparation means bringing together the latest inspection results, relevant drawings, anomaly history and any outstanding requirements. The practical question is simple: what does the next inspection need to establish?
An anomaly may need a closer view, a repeat measurement or evidence from a different angle. An uninspected area may need a revised access plan. Where the record is incomplete, that uncertainty should be visible in the work pack so the team can plan around it.
For example, if marine growth prevents a weld from being assessed, the record should show what was visible, what could not be assessed and what cleaning would be needed before reinspection.
Keep the evidence connected
During inspection, observations are more useful when they stay linked to the correct asset, member or inspection location. Video references, still images and measurements should carry enough dive context to support review without relying on someone’s memory of the operation.
Clear task status matters too. Completed, partly completed and uninspected items need to be distinguishable, with reasons recorded where work could not be completed. That gives reviewers a clearer picture of coverage and helps the next planning team understand the remaining scope.
Close the loop through review
Quality control is the point to check that the evidence supports the recorded finding and that outstanding questions are clear. Once reviewed, the record can inform the next work pack: what needs revisiting, what evidence is missing and what preparation could make the next inspection more effective.
Developing tools around the work
At Fathom 6, we are developing Fathom 6 Inspect with smaller, focused inspection projects in mind. The aim is to support prepared work packs, structured inspection logging and evidence that remains connected through review and future planning.
Alongside this development, our partnership with Enaimco supports full-field and campaign management requirements. The right approach depends on the scope, the asset and how the client needs to use the results.
